4/3/2021 Lets talk Tinnitus![]() Last month, for Tinnitus week, I posted some videos on my Instagram and Facebook pages of tactics I use to reduce my Tinnitus. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. Sometimes the best I can do is distract my brain from the incessant noise! There are lots of things you can do about your tinnitus to reduce its impact on your life. Whilst lots of tricks provide temporary relief, you can get to a place where you stop paying attention to the sound and it stops bothering you entirely. Lasting relief from tinnitus is entirely possible. The technique from my first post requires you to place the palms of your hands over your ears with fingers resting gently on the back of your head. Your middle fingers should point toward one another just above the base of your skull. Place your index fingers on top of you middle fingers and snap them (the index fingers) onto the skull making a loud, drumming noise. Repeat 40-50 times. This technique works because you are relaxing the sub-occipital muscles, reducing tension, plus the drumming and vibration distracts your brain from the other noise. Some people experience immediate relief with this method. Repeat several times a day for as long as necessary to reduce tinnitus.
